Taking a significant stride towards railway modernization and transparency, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway has successfully implemented a fully biometric sign-on and sign-off system across its TTE lobbies located in Jammu, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan, Srinagar, and Pathankot. Under this new arrangement, the attendance of ticket-checking staff will now be entirely digital and Aadhaar-based.
Highlighting the features of the biometric sign-on system: Through this biometric system, the attendance of TTEs will be tamper-proof and transparent, thereby eliminating errors associated with manual record-keeping. This system will provide real-time data regarding employee availability and duty status, ensuring more efficient workforce management. This initiative aligns with the Government of India's' Digital India' program and aims to enhance accountability within railway operations. Improved staff punctuality and precise deployment will lead to better services for passengers and instill greater discipline in ticket-checking procedures.
Commenting on this system, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Uchit Singhal, said, "The objective of this biometric system is to introduce complete transparency and accountability into the working mechanism of the ticket-checking staff. It will not only eliminate human errors but also strengthen passenger services by ensuring the real-time presence of employees while on duty. We are continuously striving to align railway operations with the vision of 'Digital India' through the effective use of technology.” An Aadhaar-based digital attendance system will eliminate the possibility of record tampering.
