Certificate Course in Theatre begins  at JU

Skill InnovationIncubation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (SIIEDC) University of Jammu(JU) launched a new programme, Certificate Course in Theatre (Basic) incollaboration with the Department of Students Welfare (DSW), JU, here today.

The course is designed tomake students aware about their innate creative and aesthetic capabilities andprovide an opportunity to get acquainted with the immense benefits of theatrefor the overall Personality Development.

The course was inauguratedin presence of Prof. Alka Sharma, Director SIIEDC, Prof. Prakash Antahal, DeanStudents Welfare, Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee,Dr. Ankit Mahajan and Sumeet Sharma.

In her address, Prof. AlkaSharma informed that this Certificate Course in Theatre was designed forstudents to give them a better understanding of the art forms. It will providean opportunity to them to get acquainted with the immense benefits of theatrewhich refine us physically, mentally and spiritually. Moreover, Theatre hasbeen acknowledged as one of the most effective tools for personalitydevelopment and this course will sharpen the soft skills of the students whichwill help them in their academic pursuits also.

Prof. Prakash Antahalasserted that this course aims at making students aware about different facetsof Theatre and providing them an insight about its different genres throughpractical and theory sessions.

Focusing on communication skills,confidence, creativity, team spirit, self-exploration, spontaneity and otherskills, this course will be highly beneficial for the participants.

Prof. Monika Chadha advisedthe participants to utilize this opportunity properly by being punctual anddedicated as intervention of arts and culture play an important role inbroadening the horizons of our imagination and creativity by making usconscious, compassionate and sensitive about the society.

The course had beenenvisaged under the guidance of Prof. Garima Gupta, coordinator SkillDevelopment and Career Planning Vertical. Sumeet Sharma, Drama Instructor atthe DSW, JU is the course coordinator. Being professionally qualified andhaving an extensive experience of theatre, he will be imparting invigoratingknowledge of theatre to the participants. Visiting faculty and experts inallied arts will also enhance the impact of the course.

Those, who are attendingthe programme include Arjun Pratap Singh, Avni Sharma, Riya Jandial, MahiGupta, Rishiv Prabhakar, Malvika Kalra, Kartik Kumar, Sumakshi Pandita, MedhaGupta, Dyutima Kesar Sohana Gorka, Subani Kaur, Kakun Mahajan and KananpreetKaur.
