Faculty development initiative by CDC JU

The Directorate of College Development Council (CDC), in collaboration with the Department of Statistics,University of Jammu (JU) organised week-long Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘SPSS Unplugged: AI Perspective in Data Analytics’ under RUSA.

In the valedictory  function of the event Dean Academic Affairs, JU, Prof. JP Singh Joorel was the chief guest. He urged the participants to disseminate the knowledge they had acquired further to their students and colleagues, thereby multiplying the impact of the FDP.

He emphasized that such initiatives strengthen the academic ecosystem and prepare faculty to meet the challenges posed by emerging technologies in data science.

A total of 70 faculty members from different colleges affiliated to the JU participated in the FDP between December eight and December 12. The programme exposed participants to a wide range of topics in Data Analytics and AI using SPSS, including survey design, assumption diagnostics, regression modelling and structural equation modelling with AMOS.

Each day combined conceptual lectures with hands-on training sessions, ensuring practical application of the tools.

The programme was enriched by the contributions of distinguished resource persons including Prof. Suresh Kumar Sharma from Punjab University, Chandigarh; Dr Sushil Sarkar from IASRI, Delhi; Dr. Gulab Singh Boora from the University of Delhi; and Dr. Sumit Maheshwari from IIM Jammu.

Director CDC and Co-Convener, Dr. Dharminder Magotra highlighted the University’s vision to enhance capacity-building initiatives across affiliated colleges. He shared that with RUSA support, the CDC has initiated series of Capacity Building Programmes for various stakeholders of the University. Prof. Pawan Kumar, Convener, presented an overview of the week-long sessions.

Dr. VK Shivgotra, Course Coordinator, shared the methodological framework and curriculum design adopted for the workshop.

The organizers expressed thanks to Prof. Ravinder Tickoo, Nodal Principal, Jammu Division, acknowledging his support in nominating faculty members to attend the FDP.
