Jammu hosts BRICS, Asian Wushu selection

The two-day final selectiontrial for the two prestigious events of BRICS Games and open selection trialfor the 10th Asian Wushu Championship shall be held at Indoor Hall, BhagwatiNagar, here tomorrow.

The BRICS Games arescheduled to be held in Kazan (Russia) from June 11 to June 17 while 10th AsianWushu Championship shall take place at Macau (China) from September nine toSeptember 16.

The Wushu Association ofIndia will conduct the final selection trial for the BRICS Games and theselection trial for the National Coaching Camp for the 10th Asian Wushu Championshipon May three and May four.

Around 200 Wushu athletesfrom all affiliated units across the country are taking part in the selectiontrial. Some prominent athletes, Arjuna Awardee and world champions will be seenin action. Current International Wushu Federation athlete of the year 2023,19th Asian Games Silver Medalist and Arjun Awardee, Roshibina Devi will be seenin action.

It is the first time thatthe selection trials for the prestigious events are taking part in the city oftemples, Jammu. Earlier Wushu Association of India (WAI) had organised NationalWushu coaching camp in 2011, 2013 and 2023 at Gulmarg and SrinagarRespectively.

The J&K Sports Councilhave recently procured the latest Wushu equipment for both centres, resultantJ&K is becoming hub for the Wushu events. The deadline for the entry byname for the BRICS games is May 15, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) willorganise the National Wushu coaching camp for the final selected players afterthe selection trial at any SAI centres or as proposed by WAI. Open selectiontrial will be held for the 10th Asian Championship in which around 45 to 50campers will be shortlisted for the National Wushu coaching camp, the finalselection trial for the championship will be held on the month of July endingor August one to finalise the Indian Wushu championship for Macau.

The WAI has finalised theselection committee, which is headed by the president of the WAI, JitenderSingh, Suhel Ahmed (Member)  DronacharyaKuldeep Handoo and National Chief Coach of India (Member) as members andobserver from SAI.
