WAI holds National coaching camp at SKISC Srinagar

The National Wushu Coaching Camp (NCC), sanctioned by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) on there commendation of the Wushu Association of India (WAI), presently underway at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex (SKISC), Srinagar. Started on May 20,the camp shall continue till June eight.

The WAI also conducts final selection trials from June five to June eight at SKISC, Srinagar for shortlisting the Indian Wushu team for the 20th Asian Games Japan.

At present, 30 members (24 athletes, four coaches, and two support staff) are part of the Coaching Camp at SKISC, Srinagar.

Among the campers, five athletes and one coach from Jammu and Kashmir are part of the National Coaching Camp. They are Surya Bhanu Pratap Singh,

Ansa Chisti, Ishant Singh,Abhijeet Singh, Mohd Ali and Kuldeep Handoo, Dronacharya Awardee and National Chief Coach Wushu.

Further, five additional more athletes from J&K have qualified for the final selection trials. They are Musharaf Qayoom, Ayeera Chisti, Rohan Sharma, Kannu Sharma and Abhishek Jamwal.

Meanwhile, as per a handout issued by the Wushu Association of J&K, the WAI has requested the SAI to extend the National Coaching Camp at SKISC, Srinagar, up to June 23, as theIndian Wushu tTeam is scheduled to participate in the SCO International Wushu Championship at Hubei, China, from June 24 to June 29. The proposed extension will facilitate uninterrupted training and optimal preparation of the athletes before their departure for the championship.

It is pertinent to mention that the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council has extended full support and cooperation for the smooth and successful conduct of this prestigious National Coaching Camp.

Notably, this was the second consecutive occasion on which the WAI has chosen Srinagar as the venue for the National Wushu Coaching Camp in preparation for the Asian Games. Earlier, in 2023, a 60-day National Coaching Camp for the Indian Wushu Team was successfully conducted at Srinagar ahead of the Asian Games, which was highly appreciated by athletes, coaches, and officials alike.
