Current J&K champion, Sumit Grover won the J&K Open Chess Tournament which was organised by All J&K Chess Association (AJKCA) at IDPS School Sunjwan, here today.
Sumit won all seven rounds to emerged undisputed champion of this three-day event which had a prize tag of Rs one lakh to be presented to winners across different categories.
Pazhany Kohli bagged second place while Vaibhav Dwedi finished third. The fourth place went to Maxim Singh and Samyak Jain finished fifth.
In category prizes, best veteran title went to Manoj Kohli while best woman prize bagged by Alankrita Sharma. Youngest girl prize presented to Evisha . In under-15, first place went to Lakshya Sharma while under-14 prize bagged by Simardeep Singh.
Similarly, in under-11,best Boy prize went to Ishaan Choudhary and under-nine best boy prize bagged byManveer Singh. Mannkaramvir Singh secured under-seven best boy prize.
The under-15 girl best prize went to Izma Fatima Bhatt and Tanisha Choudhary named under-13 best girl. In under-11, best prize went to Vamnah Gupta,under-nine to Kiana Gupta and under-seven to Hoor Fatima.
A total of seven rounds were played under Swiss system as per latest FIDE rules of Chess in classical format.
Chief Education Officer Jammu, Ajit Sharma was the chief guest, who distributed total cash prizes worth Rs one lakh along with title trophies to the winners. Also present as special guests were Judicial Magistrate, Kapil Dev; CEO Ramban, Vikram Singh and District Coordinator Jammu, Rajiv Kumar as also members of the school management and office bearers of AJKCA.
