After participating in World Cups at Tashkent and Athens, Shreya Gupta of Jammu and Kashmir shall participate in the prestigious Senior Women Sabre World Cup to be held in Peru from May 22 to May 24.
Top fencers from across the globe will compete at the highest level. Shreya Gupta will be among the elite Indian contingent comprising of Olympian Bhavani Devi from Tamil Naidu, Jafferl in from Tamil Naidu and Akhire Sharma from Haryana selected for the championship.
The selection of India’s best athletes reflects the growing strength of fencing in the Nation. A senior gold medalist of this year, Shreya has consistently showcased exceptional skill and determination on the national circuit. “Her selection for the Senior World Cup is a testament to her hard work and outstanding performance in fencing. Shreya’s selection for this world cup has been made after three phase trials held by Fencing Association of India,” said general secretary of the J&K Armature Fencing Association, Bhanu Vijay Sharma.
Shreya’s achievement has brought immense pride to the region. Her journey continues to inspire young and aspiring sportspersons to pursue excellence in fencing.
“She has been practicing at Vijay Bharat Academy, Ahmedabad for last four years wherein she is getting competitive and methodical training from best coaches,” added Sharma.
