Semis line up drawn in Bhagat Singh Hockey Tourney

Semifinals position has been cleared with Badal Hockey Club, Guru Nanak Nagar Club, Bandhu Rakh Club and Khalsa Club qualifying for the last four stages of the ongoing  11th Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sub-Junior (Men) Hockey Tournament, organised by the Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation under the aegis of Hockey J&K at K K Hakhu Stadium, here.

Now, in the semifinals,slated for tomorrow, Badal Club shall take on Bandhu Rakh Club at 1 pm while Guru Nanak Nagar Club to meet Khalsa Hockey Club at 3 pm.

In the first round of quarterfinals, Badal Club Srinagar and GNNC win one-sided contests today.

Badal Club blanked Shaheed Bhagat Singh Club 10-0 with Owais scoring six goals  in the eighth, 18, 20, 38, 48 and 56 minute of the match. Varun netted two goals converting penalty corners in the fourth and 45th minute of the game. Tanish and Sukhpreet were other scorers.

In other quarterfinal match of the day, Guru Nanak Nagar Hockey Club outplayed Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Club 8-1. Sivam Mehra and Ramandeep scored two goals each while Mohad, Harmandeep, Tejvir, Gurnur added one goal each. From Maharaja Ranjit Singh Club, Amandeep Singh netted the lone goal in the sixth minute.

The opening match, played yesterday, Bandhu Rakh Hockey Club beat MBS Hockey Club 15-0. Tarjot Singhscored five goals while Sonu added three. Somarjeet Singh and Ankit netted two goals each.

Dr Taran Singh, general secretary of the Hockey J&K and Iqbal Singh, veteran hockey player were special guests in today’s matches.

The technical penal comprised Kirandeep Singh, Saksham, Kirandeep Singh, Meenakshi, Jagjeet Singh, Gurpreet Singh and Geeta.

Earlier, the event was declared open by patron of Hockey J&K, Rajeev Sharma yesterday. Also president of the Tennikoit Federation of India, Sharma asked the youth to actively engage in sports to channelize their energies in a positive way.

Dr. Taran Singh, president Shaheed e Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation presented a detailed note of the event and appreciated Rajeev Sharma for his efforts in promoting the game of hockey in J&K.

 

FIXTURE (Semifinals): Badal Hockey Club faces Bandhu Rakh Club at 1 pm while Guru Nanak Nagar Hockey Club shall take on Khalsa Hockey Club at 3 pm.
