Saraf of J&K elected treasurer of SAWF

Former president of the Wushu Association of India (WAI) and a native of Jammu and Kashmir, Vijay Saraf has been unanimously elected as treasurer of the South Asian Wushu Federation  (SAWF), the elections for which took place during SAWF Congress at Colombo in China.

Current president of theWAI, Bhupender Singh Bajwa has also been unanimously elected as president of the SAWF. Another J&K man and Dronacharya Awadee, Kuldeep Handoo has been made Technical Chairman of the SAWF, a handout issued here today informed.

It was for the first time that two individuals from J&K have been elected to the top posts of the South Asian sports body.

Earlier, during the Congress, it was also decided that the South Asian Wushu Championship will be hosted in 2027 along with Coaching and Judging Seminars prior to the championship. The event will be organised after a gap of two years.

The newly elected president, Bhupender Singh Bajwa, assured that qualifying athletes from South Asian countries would be invited to train with the Indian National Wushu team in preparation for the 2026 Asian Games, thereby strengthening regional cooperation and enhancing the standard of Wushu across South Asia.

Kuldeep Handoo expressed his gratitude to the WAI for projecting and supporting him for the prestigious responsibility as Chief of the Technical Committee of the South Asian Wushu Federation.
