Rajyawardhan Singh emerged champion of the VCA Under-11 Open Khelo Jammu Chess Tournament, which was organized at Vivek Chess Academy, here under the aegis of All J&K Chess Association (AJKCA), here today.
Promising National level player, Rajywardhan, who has 1440 FIDE rating, won all five rounds to earn maximum five points in the two-day tournament. He was presented with title trophy and cash prize of Rs 1000 by the special guest, senior sports journalist, Sanjeev Sharma.
Rajyawardhan faced a tough contest from equally good, Ishan Choudhary in the fourth round today. Ishaan was second with four points to receive a cash prize of Rs 600 while third place went to Keshav Mahajan with 3.5 points. Keshav presented Rs 500 cash prize.
Ameena Tareen was declared best women to receive cash prize and trophy. She had a close fight with Manu Shree in the decider after both earned equal three points in the five rounds event. Seven years old, Raesha Thothla was named youngest participant with two points.
“We have succeeded in our initiative to develop competitive spirit among young boys and girls by way of introducing independent events in the lower age groups. The competition was intense with all the participants playing with chess clocks and score sheets,which ultimately tuned out to be a nice experience for both organisers and the players,” said chairman of the organizing committee, Vivek Bharti. Swiss software was used for pairing.
