PSPB chase double glory; Bengal, RBI make finals

The Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) and West Bengal will clash in the men’s team final, while PSPB will take on RBI in the women’s summit clash at the 87th UTT Senior National Table Tennis Championships after commanding semifinal performances at Abhay Prashal Stadium on Monday.

In the men’s events, PSPB blanked Telangana 3-0 with victories from Payas Jain, Manav Thakkar, and Harmeet Desai, while West Bengal edged past RSPB 3-2 in a tightly fought tie where Ankur Bhattacharjee won both his matches to seal the result.

In the women’s semifinals, PSPB swept aside Uttar Pradesh 3-0 through Syndrela Das, Taneesha Kotecha, and Sayali Wani, while RBI defeated Karnataka 3-1 with Diya Chitale leading the charge with two wins and Ayhika Mukherjee adding the other point.

History was made at the Championships as Uttar Pradesh entered the women’s medal rounds for the first time with a 3-1 win over Maharashtra. Avani Tripathi led the charge, first

edging Pritha Vartikar in a five-game duel and later sealing the tie with a four-game victory over Senhora D’Souza. While Aarti Chaudhary fell to Senhora, Disha’s gritty five-game win against Ananya Chande kept UP firmly on track.

The PSPB women defeated Delhi 3-1, with Sayanika Maji giving Delhi an early lead. Yashaswini Ghorpade restored parity and later beat Maji in straight games to clinch the tie, with Syndrela Das adding another crucial win.

The Reserve Bank cruised past Gujarat 3-0 as Ayhika Mukherjee and Diya Chitale won comfortably, while Sreeja Akula rallied after dropping the first game. Karnataka beat Tamil Nadu3-1 with Tanishka Kalbhairav winning twice. In the men’s section, RSPB, Telangana, West Bengal, and PSPB moved into the semifinals, with RSPB blanking Delhi 3-0 and strong performances from Ankur Bhattacharjee and K.J. Aakash guiding their teams through.

The men’s team semifinalsare underway, where the remaining contenders will battle for a place in thefinal.
