Former National medalist sprinter and sports administrator of Jammu and Kashmir, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) with Jammu and Kashmir Police, Sharat Chander Singh has been awarded the President Police Medal for meritorious services.

Presently posted at Police Control Room (PCR) Jammu, Sharat also served with the Security Wing of the J&K Police after his promotion to the gazetted cadre in 2022.

Sharat, who joined the J&K Police as Sub-Inspector in 1998, has illustrious career as an athlete, coach and officer serving in different capacities. As a sports administrator, Sharat, presently holds the post of joint secretary in the Athletics Federation of India.

Bronze winner in 100 meters event in the North Zone meet in 1992, Sharat did Diploma in Sports from NS National Institute of Sports (NIS) Patiala in 2003-2004 while in service. Subsequently, he took over as coach of the J&K Police team and later made chief coach in 2010.

Presently general secretary of Athletics Association of J&K, Sharat has got a vast experience and exposer in sports. He was part of the Indian teams at the world stage many a times, including SAF Games.

“It is with profound humility and gratitude I share that I have been conferred with the President’s Medal for meritorious services. Receiving this honour on behalf of the Nation is both a privilege and a responsibility. It strengthens my resolve to continue serving with the highest standards of duty, discipline, and devotion. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been a part of this journey and believed in me,” said Sharat Chander.
