Octogenarian among 4 lead in Republic Cup Chess

: Octogenarian , Dr Suresh Gupta among four lead with three points on day-one of the 2nd Open Khelo Jammu Chess Tournament for Republic Cup being held at Vivek Chess Academy (VCA), here today.

All four leading participants, Dr Suresh (82 years old), Samyak Jain, Surinder Gupta and Ritvik Gandotra earned three points each out of as many rounds of the event decided today.

Earlier, two-day event was declared open by Kailash Choudhary, social activist and senior citizen of Mast Garh locality of the old city, here. She interacted with the  participants and encouraged those young and budding players. The organising team used Swiss software for pairing.

“Chess is such a beautify game that the sports decipline hardly differentiate the gender and the age. The ongoing event witnessed a six years old girl and an 82 years old senior citizen contesting for the top honours at the same platform,” said chairman of the organising team, Vivek Bharti.
