MAJK mountaineer Mukhi leaves for Nepal

Rajesh Mukhi, a seasonedmountaineer of Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) left today forNepal to undertake a very prestigious pre- Everest expedition to Ama Dablampeak (6826m) in Nepal.

Rajesh would join a multi-nationalteam of a reputed mountaineering company, Pioneer Adventure Ltd, Nepal whichhas been hired for this expedition. The company would take care of all thelogistics and technical support during the expedition.

Pertinent to mention herethat for the last two years MAJK, on its own, has undertaken a very ambitiousproject of preparing its mountaineers for major mountaineering expeditions andfinally to put at least one mountaineer at the top of Mount Everest, thehighest peak of the world, in 2025.

Accordingly, tofamiliarize themselves with the vagaries of nature faced during major mountaineeringexpeditions our mountaineers have trekked to the base camp of Mount Everest,Mount Cho Oyu, an 8000m peak and summitted some other peaks in the Everestregion.

However, keeping in viewthe high cost of participation in a Pre Everest expedition which amounts to Rs.seven lakh per person and the prohibitive cost of Rs.40 lakh per person forparticipation in an Everest expedition, the Association decided to depute onlyone mountaineer, Rajesh Mukhi, a senior mountaineer, for the Pre Everest expeditionto Ama Dablam peak (6826m) in October, 2024 and the Everest expedition inApril-May, 2025.

It may also be noted thatRajesh Mukhi is a highly trained mountaineer who has to his credit the scalingof Winson peak, the highest peak of Antarctica, the frozen continent; Islandpeak in the Everest region besides some other formidable peaks.

Meanwhile, Zorawar SinghJamwal and Shawetica Khajuria, president and general secretary of MAJK alongwith members of District Mountaineering Associations of J&K have wished goodluck to Rajesh Mukhi for the success of the expedition.
