Adiba Choudhary, a para Judoka from Jammu and Kashmir has been selected to represent India in the IBSA Grand Prix 2026 starting today at Sao Paulo in Brazil.
“An outstanding judoka of national repute, Adiba, native of Tehsil Mendhar in district Poonch and a visually impaired para judoka, is one of the 12-member Indian contingent, which includes eight visually impaired judokas and four officials,” informed chief judo coach of J&K Sports Council, Suraj Bhan Singh.
Before the competition,she attended a 15-day national coaching camp between June 21 and July five atthe Para Judo Academy, Lucknow.
The Indian contingent isbeing escorted by officials of the Indian Blind and Para Judo Association(IBPJA) to oversee the team’s participation and provide the necessary support.
Abida earned her place in the Indian team after winning a silver medal at the 14th National Para Judo Championship held at Shri Ganganagar in Rajasthan. For the last eight years, she trains under the guidance of Suraj Bhan Singh.
“Her dedication, discipline and consistent performance have helped her achieve this remarkable milestone. She completed her schooling at the Sightless School for Girls, Roop Nagar, Jammu, and is currently pursuing her higher education from Government PG College, Parade, Jammu,” said the coach.
RANKING: This event will provide points for the new IBSA Judo World Ranking List. Presently, she holds world ranking 25 and Asian six rank. The Brazil event shall help Abida build up her ranking and selection prospects for the forthcoming Asian Para Games 2026 in Japan.
Meanwhile, the sports fraternity, especially those associated with Judo, congratulated Abida and extended best wishes for improved performance at the IBSA Grand Prix 2026.
