Jammu West and district Kathua won their respective matches to qualify for the next round of quarterfinals in the ongoing J&K UT Hockey Championship, organized by Hockey J&K at K K Hakhu Stadium, here today.
Both the matches remained one-sided contests with winners making it absolute 16-0 wins. While Jammu West blanked district Shopian, Kathua inflicted a humiliating 16-0 defeat on district Budgam.
For Kathua, Varinder Singh scored six goals, followed by two each from Manav and Paragya while Nishat, Amit, Vansh, Gurkirat, Harshdeep and Gopal added one each.
Similarly, Jammu West trounced visiting side of Shopian by similar margin. Jaswinder Singh and Tarlochan Singh scored three goals while Ramnik Singh, Shivam and Prabhjot contributed two goals each. Gunpreet, Ramandeep Singh, Jaspreet and Paramveer added one each.
Earlier, a preliminary round match, District Ganderbal outplayed Kupwara 6-2. Idrees guided Ganderbal to victory contributing three goals while Raja scored two and Zia one. From Kupwara, Sharandeep Singh scored both the goals.
FIXTURE: J&K Police to face Pulwama at 10.30 am; Baramulla to meet Kulgam at 12 noon; Ganderbal to take on Poonch at 2.30 pm.
