Jammu Central upsets PSPC to enter semis of Hockey

Jammu Central today upse tthe Punjab State Power Corporation (PSPC) in penalties to qualify for the semifinals of the ongoing Martyrs’ Memorial Hockey Tournament, organised by J&K Police at K K Hakhu Stadium, here today.

In the stipulated time,the match ended in a 4-4 draw with the results, the umpire applied penalty shootout rules, wherein Jammu Central emerged victorious 8-7.

Other three quarterfinals of the tournament have been scheduled tomorrow. While three teams of Punjab Police, hosts J&K Police and Shahbad Hockey Academy have been given direct entry into the last eight stages of the event.

Now, in the quarterfinals,Punjab Police shall take on Poonch XI at 11 am while J&K Police has been pitted against Jammu South at schedule time 1 pm. The other quarterfinal shallbe played against Baba Shri Chand Ji Hockey Club Sujanpur in Punjab at 3 pm.

Earlier, in today’s scheduled matches, Jammu South defeated Central Kashmir 6-2 and Poonch XI trounced Jammu North 7-2.  

Zahid of Poonch XI was star of the day with his outstanding performance. He scored five goals in team’s tally of seven to be declared man of the match. Sports Officer of J&K Police, Kuldeep Handoo presented the Rs 2000 cheque to Zahid for his brilliant play.
