Inter-college competitions of JU begins

Hectic schedule marked onthe day-one of the inter-college men’s Kabaddi Tournament at Gymnasium Hall onthe campus here. Out of eight scheduled games, six decided with over 12 teamsreporting to the organisers.

Earlier, the first phaseof the competition including five disciplines of Kabaddi, Volleyball, TableTennis, Basketball and Fencing was declared open by Director Sports JU, Dr.Daud Iqbal Baba with introduction with the teams and officials.

Among those prominent presentat the opening session were Dr. Mandeep Singh, Dr. Vimal Kishore, Vinay Manhas,Dr. Vikesh Sharma , Ajaz Malik, Mukesh Sharma, Rakesh Minia, Sonu Mehra, ZakirHussian, Aliaz , Balbir Chib, Jai Bharat, Vikas Karlopia, Raj Kumar Bakshi, P.DSingh, Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar, Inderjeet Singh, Harinderpal Singh, ManjeetKotwal, Richa Mandla and Vandana Sharma.

The penal of technical officialscomprised Anil Sharma, Ajay Chopra, Dheeraj Sharma, Keshav Singh, Harpreet Singh,Amandeep Singh and Gagan Kumar.

 

The Results:M.I.ET beat BDC Udhampur by eight pts; GDC Akhnoor beat GDC Khilotran by 13 pts;G.D.C Doda beat G.D.C Chenani by 10 pts; G.D.C Reasi beat G.D.C Doda by 20 pts;G.C.E.T beat G.D.C Poonch by 18 pts; G.D.C Hiranagar beat M.B.S College by 20 pts.

 

VOLLEYBALL: The men’s inter-collegeVolleyball competition, only four matches could be played as against 14scheduled contests for the opening day today on the JU Campus. The poorparticipation indicates lack of interest shown by the affiliated colleges of JUin raising teams in a sports discipline which is popular among the rural youth.The technical penal for the event included Amit Sharma, Shubham Sharma, ManuSingh Pawar and Vikas Karlopia.

However, as per the drawn fixtures,the JU has received 56 entries which have been reflected in the schedule.

 

The Results: MIETJammu beat Government Degree (Boys) College 2-0 (25-13, 25-12); GDC Kunjwanibeat GDC Reasi 2-0 (25-07, 25-08); GDC Khilotron beat GDC Sidhra 2-0 (25-13,25-22); GDC Doda beat GCET 2-0 (25-21, 25-13).

 

BASKETBALL: ASCOMS beatM.I.E.T by four pts;  BDC Udhampur beatGCET Jammu by 27 pts; GDC Udhampur beat Dogra Degree College Samba by 27 pts;

GDC Khatua beat GDCKilhotran by 26 pts.

 

TABLE TENNIS: The Results (Men):G.D.C Poonch beat GDC Billawar 3-0; G.D.C Ramban beat Dogra Degree College 3-0;G.C.E.T Jammu beat G.D.C Jindrah 3-1; G.D.C Hiranagar beat G.D.C Basholi 3-1;G.M.C Doda beat G.D.C Rajouri 3-0; ASCOMS beat G.M.C Kathua 3-1. Matches of thewomen section shall be played tomorrow. Today’s competition officiated by RavishVaid and Sahil Malgotra.
