Growing Jammu needs more stadia: MLA Sharma

With the growing citylimits, Jammu needed more stadias and play fields to attract the youth, whootherwise have been left with little options to explore the possibilities inthe world of sports.

This was stated by former Ministerand MLA, Sham Lal Sharma at the inaugural of the 24th J&K UT Sport ClimbingChampionship, organised by Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) atTenzing Norgay Sport Climbing wall in the Sprawling Buds ICSE School campus,Bantalab, here.

The local MLA was speakingto the gathering of young climbers, who represented different districts of theUT of J&K.
Earlier, the organisers had a tough time to complete the preliminary rounds ofthe competition in view of the growing participation of about 400 boys andgirls from 11 districts of Udhampur, Reasi, Anantnag, Samba, Srinagar, Pulwama,Budgam, Shopian, Doda, Kulgam and Jammu.

While addressing thedistinguished gathering of the two days championship in which over 400 climbersare participating, the chief guest said that there was great need of anotherstadium in Jammu city because of the expanding area and population.

Prominent among otherspresent on the occasion included Zorawar Singh Jamwal, president; Ram Khajuria,senior vice president and Shawetica Khajuria, general secretary of MAJK; RahulSharma, chairman and Ramesh Khajuria, Director of Sprawling Buds ICSE School,Jammu; Arti Sharma, chairperson Apple Kids International Pre School, Bantalab,Jammu, general secretary District Mountaineering Association Jammu, SonamSidharth and office bearers of District Mountaineering Associations ofUdhampur, Reasi, Anantnag, Samba, Srinagar, Pulwama, Budgam, Shopian, Doda,Kulgam besides Jameel Mustaffa, president of Sunridges Trekking andMountaineering Club, Pulwama as also managers and coaches of variousparticipating institutions.

 

Baljinder Pal Singh,Divisional Sports Officer and Anil Wadhera, Boxing coach attend the inauguralceremony as observers from J&K Sports Council.

President of theAssociation Zorawar Singh Jamwal stressed the need to promote more and moresports with necessary infrastructure so that the youth of the UT can be savedfrom the ill effects of drugs.

The two-day championshipis being organised by Mountaineering Association of J&K in collaborationwith Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu under the aegis of Indian MountaineeringFoundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi

and sponsored by J&KSports Council.
