Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports(DYSS), the annual inter-zone district level competitions in under-14 and under-17 age groups of boys got underway at Subash Stadium, here today.

The event was declared open by the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Minga Sherpa, who was chief guest. He interacted with the participating teams and their officials. The chief guest emphasized the importance of sports in shaping the personality and future of the youth. He stated that sports activities provide a constructive platform to engage young minds and play a crucial role in keeping youth away from drug abuse.

Earlier, district (DYSS) officer, Tarsem Singh presenteda brief note of the activities while highlighting the achievements andexpressing gratitude to the district administration for the support andencouragement.

Around 400 young school going boys, representing 11 zonesof district Udhampur are taking part in the disciplines of Kabaddi, Handballand Badminton.

Among others present on the occasion were Vijay Kumar,Jyoti Gupta, Suraj Bhan Singh, Rakesh Kumar and Yash Paul.
