The Asmita Women’s Wushu League got underway today at theIndoor Stadium, Polo Ground, Srinagar. The two-day event shall conclude tomorrow,marking a significant step towards empowering young women athletes in J&K.
The event witnessed an overwhelming participation of over600 players, including athletes from three Khelo India Centres and one PMDPCentre.
The opening ceremony was graced by chief wushu coachIndia and Dronacharya Awardee, Kuldeep Handoo as the chief guest. Ranjeet Singh,coach J&K Police football team, was guest of honour.
Also present were office bearers of Wushu Association ofJ&K Mohammed Maqsood Rather (joint secretary), Ajaz (KIC Coach), RameezAhmad (PMDP Coach), and Irfan Ahmad Wani. A large number of parents, teachers,and well-wishers also attended to encourage the participants.
Speaking to the gathering, Handoo commended thededication and talent of the young athletes, interacted with them personally,and assured that every possible facility along with quality coaching would beextended to help them excel. He motivated the players to remain disciplined andfocused, underlining that such initiatives serve as stepping stones to successat the national and international levels.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered byMohammed Maqsood Rather.
