To encourage women in sports, Sports Authority of India (SAI) in support with Fencing Association of India (FAI) organized ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action) through fencing association of J&K at Fencing Hall, MA Stadium, here.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from budding and experienced female fencers, reflecting the growing popularity of fencing sport among women in the Union Territory. The ASMITA league is an initiative of Sports Authority of India(SAI) under Khelo India Scheme which aims at promoting women’s participation in various disciplines of sports and providing them with a competitive platform.
Ansuya Jamwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu was the chief guest, who felicitated those winners of the day-long event. She appreciated the efforts of the organizers in promoting women-centric sporting events in Jammu and Kashmir and encouraged the participants to continue striving for excellence in Fencing sport.
The event was also honoredby the presence of distinguished Guests of Honour including Ms.
Parul Khajuria, Deputy Secretary and Aman Sharma, High Performance Director, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Incharge, STC Jammu and Krupali Singh, Manager, Indoor Sports Complex, M.A. Stadium, Jammu were guests of honour.
Around 100 fencers took part in this event 44 excelled winning medals in various events.
