Arun Deep bags men’s Climbing title

As expected Arun DeepSingh of Jammu, an international climber, won the coveted Men’s title whereas KashishBharti of Udhampur, retained the Junior boys’ trophy of the 24th J&K UTSport Climbing Championship which concluded at Sprawling Buds ICSE School,here.

Vikas Singh and HarmanSamotra, both from Jammu district bagged the second and third positionsrespectively in the Men’s category.

However, Ozma Altaf ofBudgam and Rudra Rajput of Jammu became the new champions in the junior girlsand sub junior boys categories respectively. Whereas Preeti and Anshika ofAryan Oriental Convent Higher Secondary

School, Udhampur securedthe second and third positions in the Junior Girls category the second positionin the Sub Junior Boys category was bagged by Harshveer Singh of Sprawling BudsICSE School, Jammu and the third

position was shared byAdil Basit Dar of Pulwama and Yashwin of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu.

The results in the Women’scategories were on expected lines. Shivani Charak and Shilpa Charak, both internationalclimbers of Jammu secured the first and second positions and the third positionwas clinched by Prerna of Rajouri.

The most interestingcompetition was witnessed in the Junior Boys category in which five climberstopped the 40ft high wall and the result was determined on the basis of timetaken to top the wall in which Kashish Bharti of

Udhampur emergedvictorious. Saksham of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu and Aradhya of St.Xavier Convent Senior Secondary School, Barnai, Jammu secured the second andthird position respectively.

Highlight of thecompetition was no doubt the superb performance of Aayana Bhagat in the SubJunior Girls category. Her climb was an outstanding exhibition of power andtechnique. The 13 year old Aayana of Sprawling

Buds ICSE School, Jammuclimbed immaculately from one hold to another making excellent climbing movesto top the wall in great style. The spectators were held spellbound during herclimb. Aradhya Thakur of Sprawling

Buds ICSE School, Bantalabsecured the second position and the third position was shared by Drishti Duttaof St Xavier Convent Sr. Secondary School, Jammu and Deepika of Sprawling BudsICSE School.

At the concluding functionParveen Sharma, Chairman, The Citizens’ Cooperative Bank Ltd was the chief guest,who along with Rahul Sharma, Chairman, Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Dr GopalParthararthy, general secretary, Public Opinion Forum and Anil Wadhera, seniorboxing coach of J&K Sports Council distributed medals to the winners andmementoes to the participating institutions and distinguished personalities.

Prominent among otherspresent on the occasion included Ram Khajuria, senior vice president; ShaweticaKhajuria, general secretary; Sonam Sidharth, general secretary of DistrictMountaineering Association Jammu and organising secretary of the competition;Seema Kharyal, a senior member of MAJK; Jameel Mustaffa of Sunridges trekkingand Mountaineering Club, Pulwama, office bearers of various districtmountaineering associations and technical experts from IMF North Zone Committeeand MAJK.

The Championship wasconducted by Mountaineering Association of J&K in collaboration withSprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu and sponsored by J&K State SportsCouncil.
