Amrita makes a comeback in J&K Chess

Two-time J&K women champion, Amrita Gupta has made a comeback to the game of Chess winning back to back titles in the domestic events and impressive show in the just held prize money tournament at IDPS, here.

Winner of the recently concluded VCA Smart girl chess tournament twice, Amrita has played brilliant game,although she could not make it to the podium finish in the just held J&K UT Open Chess Championship. So much so, she secured points equal to that of the women title winner.

Rested for two long years because of the non-availability of any training facility in the city, in view of closer of VCA for the same period, she returned to the Academy soon after it (Academy) reopened in May last. And, within no time she regained her control over the pieces and moves.

Pursuing her Bachelor Arts(English Literature), 19-year old,

Amrita Gupta, who has got the FIDE rating of 1410, looks confident to soon join the club of women achievers from J&K, Arushi Kotwal (1850 plus) and Meenal Gupta (2067).

Shining star of VCA

Amrita Gupta has been assigned the title to ‘Shining Star’ by the leading training facility of Vivek Chess Academy considering here back to back title wins in the domestic events.

Amrita joined the VCA in 2017 when she was ten years old and in the very next year she won 1st Gold Medal in Under-13 category. Soon after her higher rated seniors, Meenal Gupta(rating 2067 peak) and Arushi Kotwal (rating 1850+) quit the active playing, Amrita become Senior women Chess Champion of J&K at a young age of 15 in 2021. She retained the coveted title in 2022 also.

However, she could not continue her training for two long years. When she returned to thee active training last year, she was runners-up of the senior women’s event.

Talented Amrita has always won the top slot in her categories like Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19.Her FIDE Rating is 1410. She played nationals and scored good points.

 

Potential National player

Amrita has got the potential to compete and excel at the National level competitions. Though in last couple of attempts she has not been able to make podium finish, yet she has impressed with her victories.

“The way Amrita has played in last couple of tournaments , especially against some higher rated players, surely she will excel at the National level. She has got the potential to improve her present rating and given improved performance at the National level,” said Coach Vivek Bharti.

Important to mention here that Vivek has the credit of training J&K’s top rated players and international medal winners, Meenal Gupta (rating 2067) and  only International Master of J&K, Soham Kamotra.

“The most important and attractive part of her game remains her victory in the VCA Open Republic Cup Chess wherein she comfortably defeated higher rated male players, Samyak Jain(Rating 1710) and Ritvik Gandotra (Rating- 1650+),” he maintained.
