AJKCA evolves ‘Weekend Chess’ concept

The All J&K Chess Association (AJKCA) has come out a pilot project—Weekend Chess to reach out to the maximum number of youth in Jammu and Kashmir.

To be replicated in all the 20 districts of J&K, the project shall be launched in Jammu district in near future as part of the multi-year chess promotion plan of the AJKCA.

“In the first year of the Weekend Chess, 40 such day-long competitions, across three formats of Rapid,Blitz and Classical shall be held for which a calendar with dates will be announced on February 14,” said newly elected president of the AJKCA, Meenal Gupta.

Through the Weekend Chess programme, the AJKCA has planned to involve 1.5 lakh youth into active chess in the next four years ending 2030.

“It is a meticulously curetted to boost and encourage the potential of young chess players and aspirants. It aims to develop a self reliant chess economy fully equipped and supported by modern, digital and smart technology,” said Meental.

She added that the Weekend Chess aspires to generate plethora of opportunities and functional platform for chess players, coaches, arbiters, and all those seeking chess as a career option.
