The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has virtually refused to entertain the proposals received for inclusion of 13 new games in the sports calendar at the college level competitions held under the banner of AIU across the country.
The AIU discussed the matter in its meeting held on August 26 last and concluded with the remarks that the new proposals for inclusion of games would be considered only after finalization of Khel Vidhi (AIU Sports Rules and Regulations 2026) in accordance with the provisions mentioned therein.
The proposed 13 games included Beach Tennis, Finswimming, Pittu, Indokick, Throwball, Roller Athletics, Lacrosse, Muaythai, Rocket Ball, Lagori Sport, Sqay Martial Art, Traditional Archery and Arm Boxing.
However, the AIU expressed keenness to include new Olympic, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, FISU World University Games, Asian University Games, and recognized Indian Traditional Games in its Sports Programme, subject to the fulfillment of the prescribed norms and eligibility criteria.
It was also resolved by the AIU that any new game should be considered for inclusion in the AIU Sports Calendar only after five years of its successful implementation by School Games Federation of India (SGFI).
