Aarav emerges winner in record turnout Chess event

Aarav Gupta emerged winner of the open chess tournament, an event which witnessed highest ever participation and Rs 50, 000 worth cash prizes, here yesterday,

Aarav presented Rs 15,000 cash prize. Second place went to Adil Johnson (11,000) while Comrade Parvez (5100)finished third. Ravi Kumar and Paras Sharma were fourth and fifth to be presented Rs 3100 and Rs 2100 cash prize respectively.

The day-long event offered free entry for the chess enthusiasts thus attracted huge participation of 432 players across different age groups and categories. Event was organised by Dr. KD hospital in collaboration with Jammu District Chess Association.

The best woman prize of Rs 1500 went to Ahana Gupta while SP Sharma (Rs 1500) named best veteran participant.

A prize of Rs 1100 each presented to Best Under-11 girl, Ameena Tarin; Best Under-11 by, Rajyawardhan;Best Under-13, Pazhany Kohli; Best Under-15 boy, Vaibhav Dwivedi; Best Under-15girl, Izma Fatima Batt and Best Under-13 girl, Ahana Gupta. And to encouraged those youngest participants, Avyan Gupta and Hoor, both seven years old, presented Rs 1500 prize each.

Earlier, the event was declared open by Minister for Sports, Satish Sharma, who encouraged the participants and appreciated the organisers for the promotion of Chess.

Later, Legislator, Vikram Randhava, in the presence of other dignitaries, Dr. KD Singh, president AJKCA Meenal Gupta; Atul Kumar Gupta, chairman Planning and Development Commission of All India Chess Federation (AICF), felicitated the winners. 

Also present were the members of the organising team including Comrade Parvez, treasurer AJKCA; Dr. JP Singh and Dr Sumit as also.  the Arbiters, Bindu Pathania, Arvindu, Ritish, Danish and Stuti.
