23rd J&K UT Athletics Championship begins

Two-day 23rd J&K UTAthletics Championship, organised by the J&K Amateur Athletics Association(JKAAA), got underway at Synthetic Athletics arena, University of Jammu, heretoday.

The event is being held underthe auspices of the Athletics Federation of India and in support with J&KSports Council and University of Jammu as also Department of Youth Services andSports, J&K.

The championship is beingconducted in Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, Under-20, and Open categories inboth male and female categories. Around 800 athletes from various districts ofthe J&K are participating in this two-day championship in field and trackevents.

 

The championship wasformally declared open by Dr Ashutosh Sharma, veteran sports administrator and vicepresident of Athletics Federation of India.

He appreciated the J&Kunit of the Athletics Association for holding the activities on a regular basisthus providing ample of opportunities to the young athletes to perform andexcel.

Prominent among those whowere present in the opening were Sharat Chander Singh, general secretary, JKAAA;Ravinder Singh, senior vice-president, JKAAA; Ajay Sharma, Vinod Bhatia; RajeshKumar, Treasurer, JKAAA; Nirmal Singh; Sarabjeet Singh; Pawandeep Kour; and SeemaKharyal.
