23rd All India Police Water Sports Champ: Excellent start by SSB women with 2 gold

The women team of SimaSuraksha Bal (SSB) made an excellent beginning with two gold out of as many eventsdecided on the opening day of the 23rd All India Police Water SportsChampionship being hosted by J&K Police under the aegis of All India PoliceSports Control Board (AIPSCB) at Srinagar today.

The SSB women won theirfirst gold in C-2 event of Shivani and Neetu Verma. It was followed by secondgold in K-4 event wherein Sushma Verma, Dipali, Manaswini Swan and L Meena Devidefeated their opponents from BSF (2nd), ITBp (3rd).

In total, 30 teams (20 Menand 10 Women) comprising about 500 players and 60 technical officials areparticipating in this tournament.

Earlier, the event wasdeclared open by Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha at Srinagar.

The Lt Governor welcomedand extended his best wishes to all the sportspersons, organizers and sportsenthusiasts for a very successful and memorable championship.

He congratulated theJ&K Police for hosting the prestigious tournament and lauded itssignificant contribution in promoting sports and the holistic development ofyouth.

Over the last two decades,besides maintaining public order and tackling insurgency, the J&K Policehas made a landmark as a host, for organizing 17 prestigious and high-profileAll India Police Championships in a professional manner, the Lt Governor said.

“Sports, and inparticular, water Sports, embody the spirit of discipline, teamwork, andresilience. These qualities resonate with the principles that our lawenforcement agencies uphold in their duty to safeguard our communities. Thelessons learned during the competitions are a testament to the values thatshape our professional lives,” he said.

 

“The LG said that he was confidentthe visiting players and team members will enjoy the warm hospitality andmagnificent sights of Jammu Kashmir and return as a brand ambassador of UT ofJammu Kashmir.

RR Swain, DGP; VijayKumar, ADGP, Armed, Law and Order; Aftab Malik, Chairman, District DevelopmentCouncil Srinagar;  senior officials ofPolice, Security Forces and UT administration, eminent sportspersons and sportsenthusiasts were present at the inaugural ceremony.
